100 Years of Dada

Zurich is celebrating the centenary since the creation of Dada, one of the 20th Century's famous art movements. To commemorate this occasion, Zurich is hosting the European Art Biennale called Manifesta.
We searched out the birthplace of Zurich Dada at the Cabaret Voltaire, where artists would meet and discuss their manifesto and perform absurd plays. The building is found in the old town on the Spiegelgasse. After climbing the Grossmunster steeple nearby, it was time for a coffee and a rest, absorbing the atmosphere of the Dadaist's meeting place. We sat at a table in the window watching the world pass by below and having the odd tourist group stop and take photos. The performance space is being used for the Biennale but we were able to see it before the nighttime crowds. There is a shop downstairs that sells books, t- shirts and other paraphernalia.
