A Fairytale Castle in Bavaria

Neuschwanstein Castle is in southern Germany near the Austria border, and can be see from a distance nested into the mountains. It is also a very popular tourist destination, no matter what time of day you arrive. Busloads of people continually arrive, along with tourists, like us, who arrive by car.
King Ludwig would be extremely happy that his unfinished castle is drawing so many visitors and obviously making a great deal of money to go towards its maintenance and completion.
While you can travel up to the castle by bus or horse and cart, we decided to walk up the winding road with many other visitors. The shop near the top selling ice creams and drinks must do a roaring trade during the summer months.
We were able to get our timed entry tickets within two hours of arrival because our tour was in English.
Amazing views of the surrounding Alps and countryside can be seen from the rear of the castle. Unfortunately, the bridge above the castle from which visitors can take panoramic photos, was closed for maintenance.
