Davos (pronounced DA-vorse) is the highest town in Europe at 1560m. Historically, it was a place for the sick to come and heal because it's microclimate was supposed to be good for those suffering lung disease and tuberculosis. German Expressionist painter and tuberculosis sufferer, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner stayed here until he died and now has a museum in Davos with one of the biggest collections of his work. The museum was closed today so we'll visit it later on in the week.
Davos is a ski resort town with a number of mountains on which to ski in winter and hike/ mountain bike ride in summer. There are lots of hikers here, mostly retirees, but also members of the Exoplanet conference happening here all week.
While Graeme was conferencing, Rebecca and I started investigating the mountain trails.
Schatzalp is the lower of the ski runs here with a funicular that takes visitors up to its famous mountain hotel and walking tracks.
Steep climb up the mountain
Hotel Schatzalp and restaurant area
A bizarre wooden sculpture on the walking tracks
